Dr. Urish Picks Five Favorite Comedy Films

1) PlayTime (1967)
Jacques Tati's film is incredible. Funny, creative, thought provoking and just plain brilliant. There's no other film quite like it. Get ready to have your mind blown!

2) Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? (1957)
Frank Tashlin's mixture of satire and cartoon-style gags is not only a hilarious social critique, but also a great parody of conventional Hollywood movie tropes. Go Frank Go!

3) Cinderella (1977)
A "strong R" rated musical comedy that is not only raunchy (in the best way) but also genuinely clever. There's an oddly spot-on "deft but over the top" comic sensibility at work here that is missing from most films of this type and makes this film a special joy.

4) Our Hospitality (1923)
Buster Keaton at his best in a serio-comic action-romance that is firing on all cylinders. You may not expect droll humor in a silent era film---get ready to find out just how sharp and funny Keaton was and is.

5) Oder In The Court (1934)
The all but forgotten comedy team of Bobby Clark and Paul McCullough are at their peak relentlessly anarchistic form in this two-reel short. The Marx Brothers and the Three Stooges at their wildest barely get into Clark and McCullough territory.
